History of Automation Specialists Inc.

Automation Specialists Inc. was started in 1995 as a sole proprietorship. At the time of its inception, the owner, David Knittle, was employed by Rincon Research Corporation as a full-time senior member of their technical staff. In 1995/96, David rented a booth at the SAHBA Home Show to evaluate the residential home market for home automation, systems integration, structured wiring, and home entertainment systems. While present at the show, David contracted to complete several projects. During 1996, David realized how integral the home entertainment sector was to the company’s present scope and added a full line of home entertainment manufacturers to the company's vendor list. Automation Specialists was incorporated in 1996. On January 11, 1997, David Knittle left his position with Rincon Research Corporation to operate Automation Specialists Inc. as his full time career commitment.

What Is It We Do?

Automation Specialists provides the design, sales, installation and service of home entertainment and technology for living system for the residential home market.

We are a full turn-key provider. This means that we design a system, provide the audio/video/electronic equipment required for the project, install the system, and finally, service/warranty our systems.

We can provide all of the systems you would consider placing in your home. For you this means that there’s only one phone call to one contractor. For example, on a very basic level, we can provide the security system, security system monitoring, central vacuum, intercom, telephone and television. On a more advanced level we can provide the structured wiring system, home automation, audio keypad control systems, home theater, satellite, lighting automation, fiber optic lighting, specialty low voltage lighting, home communication system and systems integration.

We are set up as direct dealers with the manufactures for the products we provide, rather than purchasing through distribution channels such as many of our competitors. The advantage of dealing with a company that purchases direct is that you, the homeowner, will unequivocally get better product support with service and warranty issues.

    Customer service is an important part of our business. We have four items implemented for customer service.

    • 24-7. We are available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. When someone calls into our office, they can reach an emergency mailbox which will then page someone. We will respond first with a phone call, and if needed, we will visit the client.

    • The Human Touch. We emphasize treating everyone we come in contact with as a human being. We call if we’re late, schedule service calls promptly and promote a high quality professional image.

    • Proactive Pursuit. We try to anticipate your wants and needs before you have to ask us.
